My First Blog!

Updated: Jan 28, 2020

Hey there! So I have decided to start a blog so I can write about the day to day activities of my life as a makeup artist and my higher education training! I also wish to keep a record of my goals and my achievements along the way and of course, bring you all along for the ride!

So to start things off, I’d like to set out what I would like to achieve over the next few years as I complete my qualification - which is a two year HND (Higher National Diploma) course in Media Makeup and Hair Artistry. During the course of the next year and a half, I want to become more confident, I want to become a better artist all round. More specifically though, I want to get my work published “for real” in a magazine or other publication. I have had my work printed in the Sheffield Star (local newspaper) but to have my work featured in magazine print or even online would be a massive achievement for me! Ideally I want to get this under my belt before I graduate.

In the more long term, I want to be able to cut back my hours at my day job either completely or to very little. That would mean that I would be taking on more paid work and working for rates that truly reflect my skill set. This is something that takes time and a lot of hard work. Networking will play a huge part in actually achieving this. I want to do some work experience with Kryolan in the summer hopefully, this would a great way to assist some more established artists, get some more varied experience than my small Sheffield scene and hopefully I can make some small impact and can network with people there.

I think to become more all rounded as an artist, I need to improve/make some new skills. I did a bit of airbrushing on my level 3 course but not very much and certainly not enough to really do anything with it. As part of my HND I've just started with it again and this time I feel I'm making much more progress! if I keep up with this I feel I'll be able to take it into my kit and make it part of the services I offer. I've also been learning how to create and edit my own photographs which will really help me show off my work to a professional standard! up until now there's been a lot of 'behind the scenes' photos from my iPhone- which have their place - but to have the knowledge of what makes a good shot means I'll be more understanding of what's happening on set and what extra might be expected of me.
